Originally published in 1933, this book was written to provide candidates for British government service in West Africa with information on agricultural practice in the region. The text is primarily based around discussion of the problems associated with farming in the area and the methods used to solve them, with particular stress placed on the economic side of agriculture. It also concentrates on one part of the region, that of Northern Nigeria, as a means of avoiding excessive detail which might confuse the reader.
