Paperback, published 9 June 2011

244 pages
22.9 x 15.2 x 1.4 cm, 0.36 kg

Originally published in 1935, this volume provides a selection of texts illustrating the Arabic dialect as spoken in the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan. The extracts were chosen as specimens of native speech, but many of them provide an additional insight into the culture and traditions of the area. Most of the material was collected at first hand or contributed by native collaborators, the remainder is taken from printed sources. The assembled texts are all dual language, with the English version being contained on the opposite page to the original. This book will be of value to anyone with an interest in Sudan Arabic culture and linguistics.
