This book of activities gives children practice in learning the various sounds of the alphabet, helping them decode new words as well as build on their knowledge of previously learned words. The activities cover a wide array of topics, including consonant blends and digraphs, vowels, rhyming words, homophones, silent letters, prefixes, suffixes, root works, plurals, syllables, and more.
Many of the worksheets engage children in thinking out new words and putting tem in sentence context. Others ask students to select a correct answer form several choices. Some have students working with a partner or using a dictionary to create word lists not found on the worksheet. The words are age-appropriate and the reading selections have been created using the Spache Readability Formula.
These activities can be used in any reading program with children of all ability levels. They provide the extra practice that most children need as they continue to master intermediate reading skills.
