Originally published in 1919, this first volume of the Collected Historical Works contains the text of the first part of Palgrave's exhaustive history of England and Normandy, dealing with the period beginning with the Carlovingians in the eighth century and concluding with the rise of Rollo. Authorial and editorial notes are supplied at the back, and the volume begins with a biographical note on Palgrave written by his son.
