A specialist on Cretan history, Noiret had originally intended to chart the history of the island from the Venetian conquest in 1205–12 to its fall to the Ottomans in the seventeenth century. However, the project was left unfinished following Noiret's early death. First published in 1892, this book contains Noiret's research on the history of the Venetian administration of Crete between 1380 and 1485.
